Running the numbers

Chris Jordan's photographs attempt to make statistics about our society concrete by depicting explicitly the astronomical numbers involved. Check Running the Numbers and Running the Number II. These are wonderful example of artworks displaying structures on a wide scale range, and I would love to see them as zoomable images.

I couldn't find any insight on Chris Jordan's website about how he creates his photographs. I suspect there are some algorithms involved... or the artist's patience and dedication is beyond all limits.

Chris Jordan, 1.14 million brown paper bags, the number used in the US every hour.

In a similar spirit, but much less interesting aesthetically, check the world clock.
